Glencoe & Glenfinnan Tour

From Inverness

This private itinerary through the Great Glen is entirely flexible; you can swap locations or adjust your time at any stop to suit your interests. At Highlander Private Tours, you have total control to design your perfect day—it’s your tour, your way.

Please note that while we explore these iconic landscapes, this tour does not include travel on the Jacobite Steam Train.

For those planning ahead, the steam train typically operates seasonally from mid-April through mid-October.

Our first stop is at Fort Augustus at the southern end of Loch Ness, where you can watch boats navigate the impressive staircase locks of the Caledonian Canal.

It is the perfect spot to enjoy the local atmosphere and take in the sweeping, panoramic views across the most famous loch in the world.

After regaling you with the story, we stop at the Well of the Seven Heads Monument and go down to the well where the heads were washed before they were presented to the chief of Clan Macdonell.

We then stop briefly at the Commando Memorial just outside Spean Bridge where on a clear day you will get a wonderful view of Ben Nevis and the Nevis range, before continuing to Glenfinnan. The Glenfinnan monument stands at the end of Loch Sheil where Bonnie Prince Charlie raised his standard in 1745.

We arrive in Glenfinnan in time to see the Jacobite steam train puffing its way across the viaduct where the scene for the Hogwarts Express in Harry Potter was shot.

As you journey back from the historic Glenfinnan, keep an eye on the horizon for the towering silhouette of Ben Nevis, the highest peak in the United Kingdom.

If the Highland mist clears, you’ll be treated to a spectacular view of this massive Munro as it looms majestically over the town of Fort William.

Our next stop is at the dramatic Glencoe visitor centre where we will learn of the betrayal of trust massacre, and we can see a reproduction of a 17th century dwelling.

On our return we will stop at the Suidhe viewpoint at the top of Glendoe , the views down Stratherrick and Strathnairn on a clear day are magnificent.

We return you to your departure point at the end of the day.

Subject to availability, and when touring from Invergordon, subject to cruise ship sailing schedule.
